Card shark Joe King gave the town its namesake in the early 20th century.  He built a large shopping center at that time marking the town’s center.  Today Kings Beach continues to evolve in thoughtful increments.  Currently, the site for this project sits vacant where a 20 unit motel once stood.  When the new project is constructed, it will provide needed housing in the Lake Tahoe Basin walkable to the popular Kings Beach State Recreation Area.
